Are You Still in Pain from Your Auto Accident?

, ,

Almost everyone has been in an auto accident, whether it is a small fender-bender or a serious injury crash. In fact, in 2014 there were 2.3 million people reported to be injured in vehicle accidents. Due to the impact factor in vehicle accidents, many of the injuries involve damage to the spine or neck that can have long-term issues for the victims. An estimated 36% of spinal cord injuries since 2010 were from vehicle accidents. If you are still experiencing pain from a car crash, you may need treatment for a spine, back or neck injury.

Symptoms of Spine Injuries

The problem with spine or neck injuries from auto accidents is the severity is not always immediately apparent. While you may have had a sore neck or generalized back pain, there may not have been any evident injury. However, as time goes on, you may find that you are still having pain or symptoms due to a lingering injury. Some of the symptoms of a spine, neck or musculoskeletal back injury include:

  • Back pain
  • Leg pain
  • Stiffness
  • Muscle weakness
  • Numbness

If inflammation of tissue around your spine is causing pressure on discs or nerves, or if there are injuries to the spinal structure, your pain will most likely increase with time. Back or spine injuries can become debilitating if left untreated.

Don’t expect your back or neck pain from an auto accident to go away on its own. Seek the medical advice of a spine and orthopedic specialist to determine the extent of your injury and what is the best option for treatment. The sooner you begin treatment, the sooner you’ll be out of pain and back doing the activities you love.
