Lip Reduction Surgery

Published on: October 16, 2018

A common procedure in cosmetic surgery is lip augmentation. Many people want a fuller lip, especially as they get older and lose some firmness and collagen in their skin. They opt for implants or injectables to get the bolder shape they desire.  However, another type of lip procedure is also making strides: Lip Reduction Surgery.

A plastic surgeon will always talk about the symmetry of the face so that the proportions look even and balanced. For people who have fuller lips than they would wish, there is a surgery that removes excess lip. Patients are put under for this surgery but it is still considered outpatient. The surgery lasts around 20 minutes per lip. It requires tissue to be extracted from the lips and a new lip line is sewn in with stitches. Newer procedures remove tissue from the inside of the mouth achieving a natural smaller lip. Recovery takes several days with stitches being removed after 7-10 days. The patient may have to eat a soft diet while recovering as the lips will be swollen and sore.

This is a permanent procedure, and as such, is more expensive than injectables. Prices will vary depending on where you live. If you wish you had smaller lips, or you had a lip augmentation in the past that is not aging well, consider lip reduction surgery. And as always, be sure to do research in your area to find a licensed, certified surgeon who will be sure to give you the best results possible.
