Plastic Surgery for Men

Published on: November 21, 2013

As one might expect, plastic surgery for men has grown in popularity in recent years due to several factors, including the fact that men want to look good as they age.  In many cases, men are working longer and are competing with younger men for a variety of jobs.  While they exercise and generally feel great, they want to look as good as they feel, which greatly helps in the job market, as well as in their personal lives!

Plastic surgery for men is different in men that it is in women, so the experienced surgeon will modify their surgical techniques to provide their male patients a more subtle effect, which is what most male patients desire.  Care must be taken not to do certain procedures such as brow lifts, as they can give the man a more feminized look, since men have heavier brows than women.  One of the biggest challenges that plastic surgeons face in male patients is thicker skin, due to the man’s beard.  This influences healing and scarring, but is not an issue with a highly skilled and experienced surgeon!

The most common plastic surgery performed on men includes blepharoplasty and rhinoplasty.   In blepharoplasty the surgeon performs a upper eyelid lift and a lower eyelid contouring, while in rhinoplasty the surgeon reshapes the nose.  Other common procedures for men include a direct neck lift where a “turkey neck” is eliminated and a S-lify facelift where a man’s “jowels” are eliminated.  All of these procedures provide the patient with a more youthful appearance for the best years of their life!
