Thigh Lift or Liposuction? Which Is Right for You?

Published on: September 12, 2018

If you hide your thighs under long pants or skirts due to lumps, bumps or sagging skin, you may have considered seeking plastic surgery to remedy your thigh issues. Both thigh lifts and liposuction are used to contour thighs and give them a more svelte appearance, but which is best to combat the specific issues you want resolved? Here is a quick breakdown on each procedure to help you decide which will benefit you the most and help you achieve the thighs you desire.

Liposuction

For contouring and removing fat from the thighs, liposuction can be an effective surgical option for many people. This is not meant to be a weight loss method; it is most effective for those close to their ideal weight that have trouble spots on their thighs. Liposuction can slim the upper leg and help improve the appearance of cellulite by removing some unwanted fat from the inner or outer thigh.

Thigh Lift

In many cases, a thigh lift is done as a secondary surgery to liposuction. A thigh lift can help with sagging or wrinkling skin on the thighs, removing excess skin and elevating the skin for a smoother, toned appearance. Often a thigh lift is needed after excessive weight loss that leaves laxity in the skin. Most people undergoing thigh lifts first have excessive fat removed, then the thigh lift. However, some patients only need the lift and contouring, without fat removal or liposuction.

Another option would be a PDO Sculptra Butt and Thigh Lift. It is a non-surgical procedure that introduces derma fillers into softer sagging areas of the behind and thighs.  The PDO is “threaded” through the areas to give a contoured appearance and lift with long lasting results.

If you are not sure which procedure you need, schedule a consultation with a plastic surgeon that performs liposuction and thigh lifts. You can have slimmer, more toned thighs with the help of a talented plastic surgeon.
