Facial Fat Transfer

Published on: August 2, 2014

As people age the natural fat tissues that are present in the face begin to diminish. A result of this loss of fat is a hollowed appearance – sunken cheeks, bags under the eyes, and a sagging neck. Facial fat transfers restore facial fat volumes to taking excess fat from one are of the body (such as the abdomen or thighs) and using it to replenish the lost volume in the face. Facial liposculpture is a safe, long-lasting, and well-tolerated procedure that produces natural looking results in thousands of patients each year.

Many people wish to change their aging appearance but don’t always know where to begin. There are injections such as Botox, but many are looking for more permanent results than those provided by temporary fillers. Facial creases such as laugh lines, smile lines, and crow’s feet can be “erased” by transferring fat from the abdomen into the lines. Acne scars can also be filled in to improve the overall texture and appearance of the facial skin. A plastic surgeon can use fat transfers to correct the signs of aging in many different areas of the face, s/he can correct skin depressions or indentations, and minimize wrinkles in the forehead. There are many options and advantages to choosing facial fat transfers.

When choosing a plastic surgeon it is always important to choose a reputable one with the extensive credentials needed. The survival of the fat and longevity of the results depend on the surgeon’s skills before and during surgery. When done successfully, the results can last for years. The face will appear softer, fresher, and more rejuvenated appearance.
