Laser Hair Removal

Published on: July 17, 2014

Both men and women often find that they want to get rid of unwanted facial and body hair. Shaving and waxing take time and energy that many people do not have, or at least do not want to exert, on repeatedly removing hair from the face, legs, under arm, necks, bikini line, and other problematic places. Advanced laser hair removal is available for all types of skin, and can permanently remove unwanted hair within 3-6 treatments.

Laser hair removal uses lasers to selectively target hairs while leaving the surrounding skin undamaged. Each pulse of the laser can treat an area of approximately the size of a quarter and takes a only about a second. Large areas such as the legs and back can be treated in about an hour, while small areas such as the upper lip can be treated in less than a minute. Ninety percent of patients have permanent hair removal after an average of five laser hair removal sessions.

During the procedure, the hair on the area that is to be treated will be trimmed to just a few millimeters above the skin surface. The equipment that the technician will use will be adjusted according to the color, coarseness, and location of the hair being treated. Your skin color may also be a factor in the adjustment; therefore if you have six treatments over a period of six months, the laser will be adjusted if your skin has tanned and then faded. Special eye protection is to be worn by the patient and the technician to protect the eyes from the light source. A cooling gel will also be applied to protect the outer layers of the skin. The technician will pulse light to the treatment areas and watch to make sure that the appropriate settings were used. After the treatment, ice packs, anti-inflammatory lotion, or cold water may be given to ease any discomfort. After a period of 4-6 weeks, another appointment may be scheduled. Continued appointments will be made until hair stops growing.

If you desire to permanently have less hair in any area of your body, call and make an appointment. We are trusted experts and provide a safe and comfortable experience.
